How to become a Caregiver

Who is a Caregiver?

A Caregiver is an independent contractor who is trained to assist a member(s) facing medical or personal challenges with their daily care, in the comfort and secure environment of the member’s home.

Usually, Caregivers are family or non-family members who reside with the members in their home, called a qualified setting. Caregivers receive monthly stipend for their services. At Absolute Foster Care our rates are competitive in the industry. As a Caregiver, you entitled to have time away for an evening or vacation. At that time an Alternate caregiver would be available to step in.

Primary Qualification of a Caregiver

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have no physical or mental impairments or challenges that is capable of
    interfering with the delivery of Adult Foster Care services.
  • Able to provide physician’s clearance to perform the requirements of
    the caregiver role.
  • Be either a relative, friend or person in the community who is willing to live with
    the member and provide care as needed.
  • All Caregivers are subject to a sex offender background and criminal background (CORI)
    checks before acceptance as caregiver. NOTE: A member’s spouse or legal guardian cannot be a caregiver.

Some of the primary functions of a Caregiver are:

  • Caregiver must be willing to provide assistance, supervision and
    hands-on care according to the member’s personalized care plan.
  • Caregivers must ensure the member is safe at all times.
  • Caregiver must ensure a stable and safe home setting.
  • Provide and prepare daily meals and snacks.
  • Provide private bedroom with a window and door for each member/ client.
